This book tells the story of several cyberattacks that took place around the world all thought to be the work of the Lazarus group. This includes the Wannacry virus that brought down a good portion of the NHS, the Sony Pictures hack that led to both great embarrassment and commercial loss for the company and, most significantly, the hack of the Federal Reserve account of Bangladesh’s central bank as well as several other digital heists of banks and financial platforms.
This reads a bit like a crime novel and is both chilling and informative. The author also goes into absorbing detail about different money laundering methods that sound like they’re right out of a Hollywood movie. The author documents what is known about the people and powers behind these hacks and how they’ve evolved from working in bank transfers and cash to embracing cryptocurrency to quickly move and obscure the money they steal.
This was a fascinating and fast-paced read, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about the world of financial crime.
